Brooklyn native Scott G. L. Midgett better known as DJ Young Lord Scotty has been DJing and event hosting in the Greater Chicagoland Area for nearly five years. In aims to cultivate a clean style, Scotty fuses together sounds and techniques representative of both New York and Chicago mixing culture. In doing so Scotty’s sets heavily blend populous Afro-Caribbean sounds with contemporary hip-hop joints. Dance hall reggae--a very prominent genre of Jamaican music, has been a staple spin for Young Lord Scotty. Similar to Chicago’s rapport to house music, dance hall is a dominant and proverbial genre spun greatly amongst DJs in NY. The Brookyln native says, “You know I come from New York… all of the black people are Caribbean in some way…dance hall is huge…when I came out here to Chicago…[it was a] culture shock.”
In addition to record spinning, Midgett has worked as a radio personality hosting the highly appraised DePaul radio show, 3 Piece Mild. 3PM, [3 Piece Mild] revolved around three major segments. The most popular segment being Midgett’s 20 minute mix.
